No.1 Bird’s-eye View Painter in Japan
The bird’s-eye view paintings by Hatsusaburō are characterized by detailed drawing of towns or streets by hundreds of surveys and sketching, and extreme deformation such as Mt. Fuji seen from anywhere. Along with the popularization of railway trips, his works entertained the public as paintings that contain the convenience as a travel guide map showing the railroad route from Tokyo and tourist spots in the target area and express the beautiful landscape of not only the target area but also the whole of Japan. He was introduced as "Today’s Hiroshige" abroad.

Hatsusaburō handled the composition of the paintings/maps depend on the request of the client proficiently. He not only drew them as travel guide maps but also undertook the whole works including the sightseeing information on the back of map. Almost all of them were produced and published from his workshop and publishing house. Furthermore, he gained the trust from the Imperial Family, the military, travel industries, municipalities and so on. He had been the center of attention and played active roles not only just as a painter.
A Painter who Loved Tanesashi Coast
He visited Hachinohe to create the bird’s-eye view painting of Hachinohe city after the surveys and sketching of Lake Towada in Shōwa 7th when Lake Towada was decided as a proposed site of national park. Hatsusaburō who knew the best tourist spots in Japan very well praised Tanesashi as "the best view in Japan", performed activities to leave the nature of the Tanesashi and spread Tanesashi nationwide as a sightseeing spot along with Mayor Kanda, and contributed to develop Hachinohe.
