Mission Statement

Our Concepts and Activities

The Hachinohe Clinic Machikado Museum was opened on April 2012 for social contributions in cultural aspects and dedication to social community by the 1st Director Ogura Hidehiko who had related to about 20 thousand people's life as an obstetrician.

Art is in people’s life. And by the echoes between the creativity of artists and the free imagination or feelings that people foster in their life, art brings richness in ordinary life.
To enjoy art more easily but deeply, we hold exhibitions from the viewpoint of the people who have a feeling of difficulty to an art.
About correcting and researching art works, based on the impression that art works bring, we take a light on excellent art works that have forgotten and inherit them to the future.
And about the activities outside museum, at school, public community center or so on, we take developing direct rapports with many people as one of most important things and endeavor to narrow the gap of education by school or social differentials between various regions and districts by providing appreciations of art with real art works.

We focus on and correct traditional woodblock prints like ukiyo-e, the art works by Yoshida Hatsusaburō who were a bird’s-eye view painter stayed in Hachinohe and antique movie posters.
Traditional woodblock print was started to be created as Edo ukiyo-e that is a masterpiece of Japanese art and had been created continuously till the Meiji, Taishō and Shōwa period.
Bird’s-eye view drawings brightened traveling boom in modern Japanese developing period from the Taishō to the early Shōwa period.
Movie as you well as know, has been one of major popular cultures from World War Two in Japan and that is also in the world now.
And to these popular cultures, the sense of value, beauty and the mood of that time that have been infiltrated and inherited to Japanese people are reflected to catch people’s hearts.

Now, because of economic globalization, social community change, information improvement and so on, we are in the times that the co-existing of various cultures and various senses of values are needed for all issues, from small to large, around us.
By re-thinking about Japanese culture, we can aware of our own senses of value or roots of our culture again. Furthermore, it makes us aware that our culture is one important part of the various cultures and at the same time, our culture is just one of them. Those awareness would be the base of inter-cultural understanding and be the one step for co-existing.
We are putting a great deal of effort into correcting, researching and propagating art works with the viewpoint that is based on the popular cultures in modern Japan which had uniquely developed and also reviewing its change brought by the modernizations after that. And that makes us think about Japanese culture in future society.
